Alexa Controlled

Let me start by saying I am not sponsored or anything of the such by Alexa or any of the companies that make all of this happen. I am simply a person that likes gadgets, and I went 110% when I discovered Alexa.

Almost everything can be voice controlled. The lights, TV’s, ceiling fans, all window blinds, the fireplace, the thermostats, the door locks, and finally, the master bedroom toilet. More on the toilets later, they deserve their own section. Every thing that is Alexa controlled, is also controlled by the common switches or remotes (TV’s, fireplace, etc), so there is no learning curve required. Control everything the way you’ve always done it, or dive in to how amazing Alexa is.

Even though the condo is 892 sq ft, it has an Alexa in each area, for a total of 7 (master bedroom, master bathroom, second bedroom, second bathroom, kitchen, living room and patio). This way, Alexa knows where you are when you speak to her. So if you’re in the living room for example, and tell her to turn on the lights, she turns on the living room lights. You don’t need to know what each individual item is called, such as the ‘living room lights’. This applies to everything, such as the thermostats, ceiling fans, etc.

There are also routines set up, which I will create another page for those to keep it simple. An example would be saying “Alexa, good night”. She will turn off all the lights in the living room, dining room, kitchen, and dim the hall light to 1% to aid in using the restroom in the middle of the night. She will also close the living room blinds, and then lock both of the front doors.  The opposite happens when you say, Alexa, good morning”. She will turn on the hall light 100%, turn on the kitchen lights, turn on the living room lights, raise the blinds about 2′ (so you still have privacy but can see a bit outside to check snow, etc) and finish with telling you the weather for the day.

When you are in your bedroom, just tell her to turn off the lights, and she will turn off whatever lights are on in your room, and sweet dreams will be had.
